FKA Twigs has agreed to drop her sexual assault and battery lawsuit against her former boyfriend Shia LaBeouf after reaching a private settlement with the actor outside of court.

The English singer-songwriter, whose legal name is Tahliah Barnett, filed a request for dismissal in California Superior Court on Friday, four and a half years after suing LaBeouf. Twigs' attorney Bryan Freedman filed to dismiss the complaint with prejudice, barring her from refiling the case, according to documents reviewed by **.

Twigs, 37, and LaBeouf, 39, confirmed that the legal battle is over in a joint statement provided to EW by their lawyers. "Committed to forging a constructive path forward, we have agreed to settle our case out of court," they said. "While the details of the settlement will remain private, we wish each other personal happiness, professional success and peace in the future."

Twigs and LaBeouf began dating after starring together in LaBeouf's semi-autobiographical 2019 film *Honey Boy*. Twigs alleged in her legal complaint that throughout their relationship, which lasted less than a year, LaBeouf terrorized and assaulted her, both verbally and physically. Accusing him of "relentless abuse," she claimed that he choked her and knowingly gave her a sexually transmitted disease.

Twigs also described an alleged incident in which LaBeouf threatened to crash the car he was driving while Twigs was in the passenger seat. She claimed that he then physically assaulted her when they stopped at a gas station.

Another former girlfriend of LaBeouf's, stylist Karolyn Pho, also accused the *Transformers* star of abuse in the lawsuit, claiming that he once drunkenly pinned her to a bed and headbutted her enough that she began bleeding.

LaBeouf's legal team denied the allegations.**

When FKA Twigs filed the lawsuit in December 2020, she unpacked the alleged abuse she endured in an interview with *The New York Times*, stating, "What I went through with Shia was the worst thing I've ever been through in the whole of my life. I don't think people would ever think that it would happen to me. But I think that's the thing. It can happen to anybody."

LaBeouf, who has spoken about dealing with PTSD and alcoholism, addressed his relationship with Twigs in a 2022 appearance on Jon Bernthal's *Real Ones* podcast.

"I hurt that woman. And in the process of doing that, I hurt many other people, and many other people before that woman," he said, not referencing Twigs by name. "I was a pleasure-seeking, selfish, self-centered, dishonest, inconsiderate, fearful human being… When I think about what my life has become, and what it is now, like what my purpose is now… I need to be useful. And when I look at this #MeToo environment, there's not a whole lot of dudes that are taking accountability."

LaBeouf went on to say that being forced to reckon with his actions "saved my f‑‑‑ing life."

He added, "Had she not intervened in my life and not created the avenue for me to experience ego death, I'd either have a really mediocre existence or I'd be dead in full."
