The long-standing Hot Topics heat between *The View* cohosts Ana Navarro and Alyssa Farah Griffin kicked up slightly Friday morning, after the latter attempted to interrupt Navarro during a heated discussion about Jeffrey Epstein accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell.

After Joy Behar introduced the chat on the show's final episode before going into a vacation hiatus for the month of August, Navarro transitioned the conversation to make a point about Donald Trump's former friendship with Epstein and her issue with people saying that their dynamic was closer to "associates" than friends.

"The one thing we should say is at this point we don't know that Donald Trump engaged in any wrongdoing," Griffin, who previously worked for Trump's communications team before resigning and speaking out against him, said, referencing recent reporting that suggested Trump was named in the Epstein files.

Griffin continued, "We also know that the Department of Justice has that, in the entirety of the Biden administration, I have a hard time believing — and believe me I know how high of esteem you all hold Joe Biden in — that his Justice Department had evidence that Donald Trump committed one of the most horrific crimes you could and did not pursue that if they had that evidence."

Navarro immediately responded, saying that she doesn't "have a hard time believing that the Biden Justice Department would have this information and not release it," though Griffin interrupted to clarify, "Not *pursue* it."

Navarro didn't look at Griffin, but responded, "Well, let me finish," before continuing with her point.

"There was an extreme separation there between the White House and Justice Department. How do we know that? Because Merrick Garland took almost two years to indict Trump, and because Merrick Garland indicted Joe Biden's son," Navarro said. "That's something that would never happen in the Trump White House, where they do treat the Justice Department like if it's his private law firm. Joe Biden did not. So, to me, it's not that hard to imagine."

Hunter Biden, Joe Biden's son, was indicted by David Weiss, a special counsel appointed by Garland. President Biden pardoned his son, who faced sentencing for tax and gun convictions, before leaving office.

Griffin explained that she wasn't "suggesting they should've leaked it or released it for political purposes," but "if they had evidence of a crime, I hold them in high enough esteem that I think they should've pursued charges" at the time.

"I don't hold Merrick Garland in any high esteem," Navarro replied. "He had evidence of a crime under Trump and it took him years to indict the guy."

Griffin clapped back, "But he indicted him," though Navarro expressed further issue with the difficulty in convicting over the indictment.

Behar then the segment off to a commercial by turning toward the audience to break the increasing tension, calling the cohosts "smart girls" with a smile.

Navarro and Griffin have long had tension at the Hot Topics table after they both joined the show permanently in 2022, replacing controversial conservative panelist Meghan McCain, who departed in 2021.

Notably, during a September 2023 discussion on the show, Griffin rolled her eyes while Navarro spoke, prompting the latter to react on social media.

In December 2022, Navarro and Griffin debated over a Hot Topics segment about toxicity in the workplace, with Griffin telling Navarro, "I can't really get a word in without you attacking me. So, I wouldn't say this is a totally different environment of women supporting each other.

Navarro replied, "Oh, I haven't attacked you yet."

*The View* airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. PT on ABC.
